Secondary site is up

Hello everyone,

I've just set up a secondary site. It's here.

The best event of 2011!

Just one month in 2011; but I can now assign the best event yet of 2011.

The best event was year 9 residential trip to Chiang Mai.

This event was awesome! Fewer activities than last year, but all of them are magnificent! Although there are some badness; mainly in the train; where I have to deal with night patrols, but other events are awesome!

The activity I like the most was the dancing party on 26th JAN. This activity was just too good to forget. I get to dance; especially I got to dance with girls!

The weather there was not too cold; mainly it is cold in the morning.

The events that I like the second was rafting. It was fun, but scary; especially the 'Lock in' commands. It is no dout scary; you have to like sit down on the floor and deal with violent currents of the shallow waters. For me it is scary; especially the one on Tuesday. That day, my boat almost flipped 90°! and the water completely flooded the boat!

The reason that this is the best event because I'm sure, there are no better events later in 2011.

2 threatening events since the start of 2011

Hello everyone.

For me 2011 was a bit of threatening start.

There are 2 threatening events that happened so far.

The first was you guest it, the harassments my friends created. My prediction on the '2010 Summary' post came true! The harassments continues! I believe tensions were built up since January 20th. The reason for a built up tensions is that one of my friend had managed to find out that I bought something from Chiang Mai and gave it to my other friend!

Then on January 21st, this suddenly exploded into rapid boom! My top secret was cracked! So I'm sure this event will be one of the worst events of 2011 when I make an end of year summary.

The second was quite unexpected, the counter attack at lunch. This was very unexpected. I was playing with the kids and suddenly they turn the game into a counter atack! I have to cope with small areas, with other side being blocked by some year 9 friends and etc! But it lasts for a short time, then the attacker die off and the counter attack ended. Wasn't really the worst, but I will class it as one of the worst events of 2011.

Anyway, hope the harassments won't continue in the residential trip! Actually, I hope it will die off forever!

Some IE6 issues

Hello folks!

This is to be a continuation of my last post about reasons not to use IE.

This post will show you some bugs you might have with IE6.

Look at those images above.

Notice that on the blog image, the 2 images are overlapping each other, and in the site image, the logo overlaps the title.

So, don't ever use IE6!

Windows 7 taskbar is better than Mac OSX dock

Never use a Mac, but from what I've heard on the net I think I can tell that Windows 7 taskbar is way better than Mac OSX dock.

taskbar.png

The new taskbar in Windows 7 is the biggest revolution in the Windows UI since Windows 95. With the new taskbar, you can pin your favorite programs to the taskbar, just like in a Dock in Mac OSX. The good thing about this is that; if there are lots of icons, the buttons is divided into pages; whereas in OSX the icon is resized to fit on the screen; which is not good if you have too many icons then the icons is too small to be useful.

On the other hand, both Windows 7 taskbar and the Mac OSX dock shares the same shortcoming. Both has no labels for the icons at all, unless the user hovers the mouse over the icon. Also, not many program make use of these new UI properly.

For example, only control panel, Internet Explorer, Windows Live Messenger, Google Chrome, and Windows Virtual PC make use of the Windows 7 taskbar, and only iTunes, Safari, and some other specially coded Mac apps make use of the dock.

So, neither of these is the ultimate winner because both of these UI shares some problems, but Windows 7 taskbar is certainly better than the Mac OSX dock in some ways.

Thailand season paterns

Another post not relating to computers...

From my past life in Thailand, I finally discover the season paterns in Thailand, excluding the southern part as the southern part have no real seasons.

Winter(first half of dry)=DEC–FEB.

Winter in Thailand wasn't too harsh but in the north the winter can be severe to Thai people because temperatures dropped well below 15°C and in mountaintops, temperature can dropped to freezing. In Bangkok winter is hardly noticeable due to the latitude of the city. At this time some trees shed leaves like in the deciduous forests in the temperate regions because the weather is particularly dry.

Summer(last half of dry)=MAR–May.

Summer in Thailand is particularly hot and dry. In the north summers are severe. Temperature rises to 40°C, and the weather is very dry. Unlike in winter, summer is noticeable even in Bangkok, because at this time south-east Asia is tilted towards the sun. Summers in Bangkok isn't so harsh like that of the north, but it is still very hot. I believe some trees regrow their leaves at this time because there might be some moisture for them.

Wet season=JUN–NOV.

Wet season is fine in Bangkok, but is severe in the countryside. Periodic rainfalls caused floods, which costs many lives. Wet season is not so hot as in the summer because south-east Asia is tilting away from the sun. At this time, all trees are richest because it is very wet and so crops and trees can grow. Some trees begin to shed their leaves around OCT or NOV, ready for the dry season ahead just like in the deciduous forests in the temperate regions where trees prepare for the cold winter.

MSN massive conversations part2

This is a continuation of my earlier post about one unforgetable MSN conversation with my friends:

12/20/2010  7:34:03 PM  sea ~ mωahh ٭ﺴ  starwars_mee@hotmail.com, Şɴıpë, Teerapat, p-im-bkk@hotmail.com, Alisha, scuderia-f430@hotmail.com, Alisha, Arav, ณัฐ

Look at the names above and try to count. I think it is more than 10 people involved in the conversation!

Note the names above were extracted from the middle part of the log; that part is where most people joins in.

Reasons why some sites load slow

I at least have an idea now why some sites load slow even on Broadband connections.

Users with 2MB/3MB Broadband connections will notice the slowdown the most, while users of 4MB Broadband connections will notice the slowdown just a little bit. Users of high-end 6MB Broadband/Gigabit+ will not notice the slowdown at all.

This is due to Flash. Flash is an interactive content that requires users to click on something.

Flash became known since the release of the first version of Macromedia Flash, although the functions are basic due to the still popular dial up connections being used by the internet users. I believe due to the 256 colors limit on Windows 95/NT4; which is still used when the first version of Flash came out; you can't make colorful animations like today! Although Mac OS has more color palids than Windows during the same time, but due to the still popular Microsoft Windows force Flash developers to stick to the 256 colors limit even on Mac OS just to make the animation looked good on Windows!

As PC graphics improve, so did the quality of Flash and images. By as early as Windows 98, icons and graphics are displayed in true colors, not 256 colors(although this option is still available).

Flash became very popular during the 2000s where Internet is much faster and PC graphics had improved a lot. Also the authoring tools has more options by this time.

By today, flash is very popular in many websites. In websites such as Webs, Facebook and etc, I had seen flash contents.

The downside is that; whilst improving interactivity on the World Wide Web, it makes pages load slower on low to middle-end Broadband internet connections.

Even in businesses like schools, flash is also widely used. For example, on my school's website, There could be over 10000 flash files hosted! And this is due to the fact that Flash can create rich, interactive worksheets/homeworks/assignments where students can virtually write his/her answers into it W/O opening Word!

Even me myself, have had trouble with some sites loading slow even by hiding flash contents through Web Visum. I think the Flash is developing very quickly.

For me the spreading of the .swf extension is not good. The use of the .swf files requires me to investigate for a special player for playing this file type, and it is a hassels because not many of them is available; and converting .swf files is not a cup of tea.

My school is one example. Like I said above, there are dozens of .swf files hosted on the website, and I need a kind of special desktop player that I don't have.

To sum up, flash is a good thing, because web developers can create rich, interactive contents. But on the other hand, it also has some bad things. The .swf files can be played with some players, but with reduced functionality, and the use of flash makes websites loads slow on low to middle-end Broadband internet connections.

Calculator added to the site and blog!

I am happy to announce that I had installed the calculator app on both my site and this blog as you can see earlier after your browser has finished loading the blog.

It's pretty cool;you can convert currency, and do some maths;without having to use calc.exe on your PC;works anywhere because it's web-base!

Enjoy using the app!

Blog overhaul

Hello everyone!

I've just overhaul the look and feel of my blog.

There are some added features and some removed features.

What's new is that there is now a logo for this blog, and I've added the Links page to be a successor to the old links collection.

What's removed is the recent comments, but I will add it back soon.

Also the IE6 notice thingy I've removed the title, so normal people that are using IE8, Firefox 3.6, Safari 5 and etc won't see the notice what so ever. Only the IE6 users will see that. I've done this with my site too.

Update: Recent comments added back!

Also I've added the news widget so now you can follow up on news from around the world!

Welcome 2011!

Sorry for not updating for few days – I've on holiday...

But anyway I was able to enjoy the 2010–2011 countdown. The event was awesome! I was able to see the most beautiful fireworks ever!

Now 2011 is here – hope it will be a good year...
